Lorien engineer stands for IChemE Congress Election

April 2021

Lorien engineer Sarah Matthews is standing in the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Congress Elections.

Sarah is standing for one of two Early Career Representative positions with IChemE, the leading professional qualifying body for chemical, biochemical and process engineers.

Sarah joined Lorien in 2017 from Swansea University with a Masters in Chemical Engineering.  She started on Lorien’s IChemE accredited graduate scheme and has since been promoted to project engineer. Sarah works within the compliance and utilities departments, with projects mainly within FMCG industries.

In her election statement, Sarah says: “Within all aspects of my life I try to leave a positive effect on people. I enjoy making a difference by listening and understanding people’s wants and needs.

“Whilst at university I was the President of the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Society, working closely with both students and staff to improve their experiences and was awarded an award at graduation for my contributions to student life.

“Now within Lorien, I chair the developing engineers’ forums and have led the creation of an internal STEM group, which encourages all staff to get involved and inspire the local schools.”

Sarah has filmed a video statement to support her candidacy.

Voting opens at 2pm on 30 April and closes at 9.30am on 21 May. Members eligible to vote receive an email containing their unique link.
