Modern manufacturing plants have a high reliance upon automated processes and materials handling equipment.  This equipment must comply with certain minimum standards of safety for operators and maintainers.

Lorien's machinery and plant compliance consultants undertake work on general plant safety under PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), CE-Marking (Machinery [Safety] Regulations). This includes assessment of machinery to be imported in to the EU, and the safety assessment of 'complex assemblies' - the combination of individual machines within an automated production line. We carry out this work for clients using machines in production, and for machine manufacturers.

We undertake hazardous area classifications and 'gap studies' under DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations), or ATEX 137. Our engineers have experience of volatile liquids, gases and powders.

Design safety reviews such as HAZOPs (Hazard and Operability assessments), FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) which complies with ISO 60812:2006, and Safety & Operability reviews are all routinely supported by our Compliance Consultants. We also offer training courses in key operational safety areas.

Our consutants also deliver specific product compliance services, in many different areas including electrical equipment, playground equipment, commercial printing, and medical devices (ISO 14971 Risk Strategy, and ISO 13485 quality management systems).
