Open for business: Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
As of Monday the 28th of November 2011, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is open for business. Tom Jordan (Sustainability Consultant) commented, “At Lorien we have followed the turbulent development of the world’s first payment for generating heat energy from renewable sources, and no-one would disagree that it has been a difficult journey.
Lorien work with a wide variety of Client’s from Historic Estates to Industrial Manufacturing sites providing advice, design and procurement of projects involving sustainable construction, energy efficiency and low carbon technologies. With the uncertainty of the consultation, and the slashing of the large biomass tariff by over 60% at the eleventh hour, we can at last get down to work with certainty.”
The RHI scheme offers guaranteed quarterly payments for 20 years covering a range of eligible technologies including biomass heating, certain heat pump technologies through to solar thermal systems. The incentive is set to ‘pump prime’ the current market looking to support an estimated 126,000 schemes, generate 500,000 jobs and contribute significantly towards the UK’s aims to cut carbon emissions by 43 million tonnes by 2020.
