Landmark Year for Lorien Engineering

A record order book that has almost doubled compared to the same period 12 months ago is just one reason why Burton based Lorien Engineering Solutions is looking to the future with confidence.

The engineering design and project management firm’s UK and Europe wide client base has also doubled in size in the last three years, particularly across the food, sustainability and energy efficiency sectors. Since it was founded in 1985, the firm has managed engineering projects totalling over £2.5bn.

The company, which has a staff of more than 80 at offices in the Midlands and Poland, is also planning to grow its workforce by a further 20% during 2012. To facilitate this, a second UK office has already opened in Manchester with a third planned for Edinburgh. Lorien’s Polish business is also moving to a bigger office in Wroclaw during the summer to accommodate a growing workload.

Lorien’s managing director Steve Slater said: “During these difficult economic times we have continued to invest in the business whilst remaining profitable and as a consequence we are now in a stronger position than we have been for a number of years. The main reasons for this are the quality of our staff and listening to our customers, building relationships and ultimately growing accounts.”

This has been borne out by the findings of the firm’s most recent client satisfaction survey, where 95% of those surveyed classed Lorien’s team of specialist engineers with top scores for both their ability and performance.

Christopher Sawyer, Chairman of Lorien said: “Over the last 5 years, Lorien has evolved into an international company proud to have a growing portfolio of household names as customers. As the firm has grown and diversified into new markets, so has its need for top quality people. The complexity of projects we deal with is quite remarkable, and it takes a special type of professional engineer to quickly grasp the needs of clients engaged in diverse industries and geographies,” he said. “We have been focussed on finding really excellent people, and with our current profile it is a trend that we expect to continue.”
