DSEAR ACOP Compliance Team Ex Logo

DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) is concerned with the protection against risks from fire, explosion and similar events, arising from the use of dangerous substances in the workplace. The regulations set out minimum requirements for the protection of workers from fire and explosion risks related to dangerous substances and potential explosive atmospheres.

DSEAR became part of UK law in June 2003, the legislation imposing duties on employers and the self employed, with a transitional period allowing existing facilities 3 years to comply with the requirements of the legislation.

The transitional period ended on the 1st July 2006, by which time existing facilities must have complied.
