Compliance Engineer (Machine Safety)

Background:

Lorien Engineering Solutions provides a comprehensive design and project management service to manufacturing companies, particularly within the Brewing, Food, Drinks, Pharmaceutical, Personal Care and Waste Management sectors. Lorien also provides discrete consulting services to clients in respect of our many engineering skills. Health and safety consultancy is a rapidly growing feature of our work. We have an established Compliance Group that currently provides expertise in Construction Safety, Machine Safety, Quality Management and Manufacturing Excellence.

Role description:

To provide technical assistance to external and internal customers with respect to the compliance assessment of manufacturing machinery with current and emerging safety legislation (for example CE Marking, DSEAR, ATEX, PUWER and more general workplace safety legislation). Additional duties may involve undertaking construction safety compliance reviews.

Duties:

  • Provide technical safety reviews of projects at various stages of development, form project concept through to pre-installation.
  • Provide written schemes for area classification/ zoning in support of ATEX / DSEAR regulations.
  • Facilitate the construction of Technical Files for manufacturing systems integrated by Lorien, in support of the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, (CE Marking).
  • Audit existing manufacturing plants, identifying non-compliances and suitable actions to achieve compliance.

Suitable Experience & Qualifications:

Candidates must have an engineering/ technical background, and ideally be qualified to degree level / NVQ4 in a suitable subject (such as mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science). The candidate will hold a suitable health and safety qualification - for example NEBOSH / IOSH ( at equivalent NVQ 3 or 4).

Experience in machines safety assessment within Lorien's core sectors would be an advantage, as would previous work in a project orientated environment.
