Health & Safety Management
Lorien Engineering Solutions has been involved with construction within a wide spectrum of industries for over 20 years. As design consultants and project managers, the company has recognised for some time the absolute need for careful design and construction planning, and the positive impact this has upon health and safety in construction.
Our abilities in the field continue to be recognised by RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) in 2006 via their annual industry awards providing a third President's Award for our record on occupational health and safety in construction. This equates to 14 years of Gold Awards.
Good health and safety management during construction processes cannot rely upon procedure alone, but procedure is nonetheless essential. Typical measures include:
- Assessing risk before construction or enabling works commence
- Recognition by the client of what duties are imposed upon him by regulations (such as CDM)
- Ensuring a health and safety plan is provided to all who need this information
- Instruct all personnel new to the site (or the particular conditions which exist) in the site norms (dress code, smoking etc), risks and emergency procedures
- Monitor construction processes, review effectiveness of procedures
- Provide good communication between all parties occupying the site
H & S Management
The management of health and safety starts with the design process and the risk assessment of construction methods. This is often augmented by a formal H&S review, which is facilitated by an experienced engineer external to the particular design team.
As part of our extensive quality assurance system (accredited to ISO9001), our Health & Safety Management System is employed on all sites under the control of our site managers.
