Energy & Utilities Specialist
Lorien Engineering Solutions have a healthy forward order book, and additional expertise is required to take responsibility for the energy and utilities elements of projects across our sectors. Both Managing Contract and Main Contract/Turnkey assignments are undertaken, and we often take projects from concept study stage through to on-site project execution.

This role is based in Burton on Trent.
Summary Role
- Developing commercially focused innovative engineering solutions to solve complex client problems with responsibility for delivery from initial conception through to final handover
- Working as an effective member of a multi-disciplined project teams leading the utilities engineering discipline
- Professional approach committed to delivering project objectives within capital, time, quality and legislative parameters.
The role requires the production of engineering designs including: sizing calculations, block-flow diagrams, flowsheets, P&IDs, data sheets & schedules, layouts & associated drawings, and scope of work documents (incorporating measurable performance requirements)
The role requires the successful management of supplier/contractor designs & manufacturing activities, works inspections/factory acceptance tests, and technical support of site works
Cost control over the project life span (compiling cost estimates, quotations, managing variations and cost to complete).
Principle Qualities
Utilities/Media Expertise – experience of generation and distribution of utilities/media such as compressed air, heating (steam, hot water, oil), chilled water, refrigeration, and process water treatment (RO, carbon filtration, etc) ideally gained in one of our core sectors (food, drinks, brewing, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, healthcare products, etc.)
Service Provision – experience of providing engineering services, advisory services or consultancy services. Practical knowledge of the issues involved in supporting and maintaining media/utilities systems would be an advantage.
Business Development – a strong candidate would have something to contribute to the development of the business. This could be: extensive knowledge of utilities systems/equipment suppliers, some specialist knowledge that could provide a consulting income stream (energy optimisation, renewable energy, sustainability, etc), or experience in commercial practice/contracts.
Attitude – The ideal candidate will be a self-manager, will be pro-active in managing their own professional development, will have a proven commercial outlook, and finally will have an eye for detail and understand the importance of quality.
People Skills – We are an engineering company through and through (owned, run, and staffed by engineers) but we sell and provide services (not machinery or technology). The ability to sell, communicate, and cooperate in the development of engineering ideas and concepts in a direct face-to-face way is essential.
Personal Development

Qualifications
Ideally degree educated in an engineering discipline (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, etc) with professional engineering status (chartered engineer).
Candidates with HNC or above and relevant experience will be considered.
Candidates must be proficient in written and spoken English.
Travel
Although the majority of our work is based in the UK, an increasing amount is delivered internationally. Our UK engineering office supports an office in Wrocław, Poland which serves the CEE area. The ability to travel at relatively short notice is critical, and a flexible attitude to working hours and mobility is a pre-requisite for this dynamic opportunity.
